ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OF THE USE ARTHROPLASTY INTERVERTEBRAL DISCS OF THE LUMBAR SPINE PROSTHESES «M-6» MULTICENTER STUDY

Objective. In this study we report clinical and radiographic results of arthroplasty prosthesis M6-L for the treatment of patients with pathology of intervertebral disc (IVD).

Methods. 156 patients (92 males) with degenerative disc diseases were operated with the one level implantation of an artificial prosthesis IVD M6-L on the basis of three neurosurgical departments of Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk and Vladivostok. We assessed pain intensity (VAS), Oswestry disability index (ODI) and outcomes by Macnab scale up to 36 months after the surgery. Instrumental data were used to assess range of motion in the operated segment and the heterotopic ossification by McAfee-Suchomel classification.

Results. The average value of the level of pain VAS before surgery was 6.9 ± 1.6 cm., after surgery showed a significant reduction in intensity an average of 1.3 ± 1.2 cm. (p<0,001). The average ODI before surgery was 40,2 ± 6,9%, after the indicator has improved arthroplasty IVD to 12,3 ± 6,1% (t-test, p <0,001). Range of motion in the operated segment at baseline averaged 36,8 ± 2,60, within 36 months after the operation has increased to 41,2 ± 2,90. During the entire observation revealed the initial period (13,4%, n = 21) or moderate (10,2%, n = 16) signs of heterotopic ossification.

Conclusion. The use of artificial intervertebral disc M6-L can significantly reduce the level of pain, improve quality of life and maintain the physiological range of motion in the operated spinal motion segment in patients with degenerative lesions IVD at a low level of adverse outcomes. [249Words]
