COEVOLUÇÃO, CATCHING UP, FORGING AHEAD E FALLING BEHIND EM DISCUSSÃO: DESENVOLVIMENTO VIA SIMBIOSE INDÚSTRIA E SERVIÇOS INTERMEDIÁRIOS

    Abstract

    A emergência das novas tecnologias de comunicação transformou o setor de serviços intermediários em uma das principais fontes de inovação e crescimento econômico. O objetivo deste estudo é identificar se estes serviços são capazes de explicar as trajetórias de catching up, falling behind e forging ahead dos países. Estes foram divididos em quatro grupos: África; Ásia; América Latina e Países desenvolvidos, para o período 1970-2009. A metodologia proposta por Toda e Yamamoto, e um painel dinâmico, foram utilizados para identificar se o crescimento do valor adicionado do setor de serviços explica o crescimento do PIB; do valor adicionado industrial; da produtividade industrial e do valor adicionado industrial per capita. Os resultados encontrados mostram que os países com trajetórias de catching up e forging ahead foram aqueles que conseguiram explorar a relação de simbiose existente entre indústria e serviços intermediários, sendo o oposto observado para os países em falling behind, the opposite being observed for countries falling behind.
