A Brief Economic History of the Amazon (1720–1970)
Abstract
Francisco de Assis Costa, professor at the NAEA - Center for High Studies of the Amazon at UFPA since 1989, launched in 2019 the book “A brief economic history of the Amazon (1720–1970)”. The work results in part from forty years of research on the Amazon region, but brings new materials in which it articulates and enriches the author's previous research. The book brings a stimulating set of new investigations, information and results. Launched in English by Cambridge Scholars Publishing covering 250 years of economic history, the book is an important contribution to understanding the Amazonian reality. These contributions are particularly strong because they dedicate themselves to the difficult task of critically reexamining canonical views on the history of the region.
