This text aims to contribute to the literature that studies financialization, focusing on two important aspects: financial globalization (as a general phenomenon) and the integration of the periphery. Therefore, the objective of the article is to develop an analysis of the process of constitution of financial globalization and its main characteristics, with emphasis on the peripheral integration and the differentiated impacts on this periphery. The main hypotheses of the text are that central and peripheral countries are integrated into financial globalization in a completely asymmetric way; and that the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) gave rise to important changes in financial globalization, with emphasis on the effects of international liquidity cycles and the role of macroeconomic variables in these cycles.
