Decomposição da variação da pobreza no Brasil entre crescimento e redistribuição nos períodos de 2004-2008 e 2016-2019

Abstract

This work aims to verify the decomposition of the variation of unidimensional and multidimensional poverty between growth and redistribution in Brazil in 2004-2008 and 2016-2019. For this purpose, the Shapley decomposition method was used. The results showed that in the years 2004-2008, income and well-being growth were responsible for the decrease in poverty. On the other hand, in the period from 2016-2019, income concentration and multidimensional well-being acted to increase poverty, especially from a multidimensional perspective. Income growth alone may not be sufficient. The conclusions of multidimensional well-being indices indicated that it is relevant to expand poverty reduction to the multidimensional sphere in order to universalize different dimensions of living conditions. These factors are important in the process of formulating and implementing public policies aimed at improving people’s lives.
