América Latina: desenvolvimento, dependência e o papel do capital chinês

Authors

Abstract

The aim of this work is to discuss the challenges of Latin American development and the contemporary relevance of the continent's dependency in the face of new configurations of contemporary capitalism. It also seeks to analyze the involvement of Chinese capital in these relations of dependency. In pursuit of these objectives, the work aims to address the following questions: How does Latin American dependency manifest itself in current times? Can it be asserted that Chinese capital plays a significant role in these dependency relations? Drawing on some theoretical approaches to dependency and an analysis of transformations in contemporary capitalism, the work seeks to argue that one of the mechanisms through which dependency currently manifests itself is related to new technological frontiers in sectors such as telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and the platform economy. By identifying these mechanisms, we aim to analyze how Chinese capital, as it increasingly enters the frontier of these new technological dynamics and approaches Latin America, may be reproducing a role typical of Western countries, leading to the reproduction of Latin America's position of dependency.
