Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the conception of work in the 1844 Economic-Philosophical Manuscripts and its implications for Marx's political-intellectual development. It is a theoretical study, whose object is the theme of work-merchandise in the 19th century and the development of the concept of work in Marx's work. For this, together with the support of a basic bibliography on the subject, it examines some aspects of the conception of work throughout the development of Marx's thought and seeks to relate them to the questions brought by Eugène Buret about the notion commercial status of labor. The study shows the constitution of fundamental concepts in Marx, the difficulties of understanding what was presented under the rubric of “labour” and some of its limits.

Keywords: Marx. Economic History. Political Economy. Labour power. Salaried work.
