The aim is to contribute to the current multifaceted debate on the period following the global financial-productive crisis of 2007-2009, by introducing the problematic of the transition of capitalism to a new phase of development and the existence of several national paths to undertaking the new phase followed by groups of countries.
The illustration of this approach through the study of the experiences of the USA and China suggests that the current crisis is not due to an exhaustion of the new phase of development, but is rather a crisis of neoliberalism as its predominant undertaking path, to which, it is argued, the so-called financialization is consubstantial -without being, therefore, inherent to the phase-; thus contributing to clear the prevailing controversy in to the scope and limitations, both theoretical and historical, of this concept in the literature on financialization.
