Abstract

Despite the narrowing of pay disparities between men and women over the past decades, the gender wage gap remains significant. In this context, several countries, including Brazil, have introduced legislation aimed at combating gender-based wage discrimination, seeking to ensure that men and women receive equal pay for the same occupation or for jobs of equal value. In this regard, this study aimed to present the new equal pay legislation enacted in Brazil in 2023, highlighting its key requirements, such as the obligation for companies to produce salary transparency reports and the implementation of penalties in cases of proven discrimination. Through a critical analysis of the new Brazilian legislation, this research contributes to the literature on labor markets and gender by identifying practices with the potential to be implemented, drawing on insights from the legislative experiences of other countries.
