About the Journal

A Brief History

História (São Paulo) is a consolidated journal in the field of History, published since 1982 by the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). The journal is the result of the merger of Anais de História, published by the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Assis between 1969 and 1977, and Estudos Históricos, published by the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Marília between 1963 and 1977. From 1990 onwards, the journal was published by the two Postgraduate Programmes in History at UNESP, located in the cities of Franca and Assis. In 2006, after more than a decade of experience, in order to optimise the Journal's work and achieve a higher level of quality, the programmes opted to extinguish two other publications that were then maintained separately - the Post-History Journal, belonging to the Postgraduate Programme in History in Assis, and the journal Estudos de História, edited by the Postgraduate Programme in History in Franca. In 2007, Revista História (São Paulo), which had long been included in various international indexers, began to circulate exclusively in digital format, which led to a significant expansion and diversification of its audience. The experience of working together to publish Revista História (São Paulo) was fundamental to the merger of the History Postgraduate Programmes at UNESP in 2020.
