Abstract

The emergence of influential international academic rankings throughout the 2000s expanded the culture of ranking in higher education in Brazil and made the subject become an emerging field of study. The objective of this article is to map Brazilian scientific literature on the topic, based on the analysis of scientific articles published in Brazil between 2017 and 2022. Using state-of-the-art methodology, 67 articles were identified and mapped. The mapping results show that, from the second half of the 2010s, the subject of academic rankings in higher education began to be researched in an interdisciplinary way in educational institutions of all administrative categories and existing academic organizations attempts in Brazil, significantly expanding scientific publications on the subject, and arousing the interest of researchers from different areas of knowledge and with multiple theoretical conceptions.
