This study sought evidence related to the training of masters and doctors in the broad field of Biological Sciences to work with innovation. It is a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative-quantitative methodological approach. The disciplines offered in the postgraduate programs of this broad field were analyzed, as well as the responses of 5,186 graduates who answered a questionnaire about their professional training in Brazilian postgraduate programs. The results indicate the existence of initiatives and successful examples related to innovation and entrepreneurship in the academic environment, but these seem to be exceptions. In general, the programs offered few disciplines, activities, and initiatives to prepare students to work with innovation processes and environments.
